Clemens’ Texas Roots Prevail

Roger Clemens While opinions regarding whether of not Roger Clemens used performance enhancing drugs may not have been altered by the recent Congressional hearings…you must admit, it was great theatre. And even better politics.

Make no mistake about it, good ‘ole boy politics’ was at work. The Clemens – McNamee Congressional hearings had nothing to do with gaining the truth or protecting America’s youth from drugs. It was Democrats versus Republicans. It was time to call-in political favors. Clemens’ Texas roots were prevalent. How else can one explain this becoming a battle of political parties? Do you think it was a coincidence that most Republicans came to Clemens’ defense? Do you think it was coincidence that leading Republican Tom Davis rushed to Clemens side immediately after the hearing?

American politics is often behind-closed-door deals. Unfortunately, we saw it at its worst during this hearing. And politicians wonder why Americans question the integrity of its leaders? When lobbying is allowed during depositions and prior to Congressional hearings regarding the use of illegal drugs, it has gone too far.

My opinion as to whether Clemens used steroids or HGH is irrelevant. However, I find it difficult to believe that McNamee was telling the truth about Pettitte, Knoblauch, and Debbie Clemens, yet lying about Roger. Why? I also find it difficult to believe Debbie Clemens would get a shot of HGH from McNamee without her husband’s knowledge. Plus, if Roger wasn’t getting shot-up by McNamee – nor did he ever discuss drugs with him (as he claims), how did Debbie know to go to McNamee for the injection?

In every poll I’ve seen, most American’s believed McNamee. So what did the Republicans hear that the rest of us didn’t, which led them to support Clemens? Maybe they heard a Republican “voice” who was the former General Managing Partner of the Texas Rangers.

By the way, that former Managing Partner currently lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

  1. All of the following come from this week’s news: Russian bombers buzz the USS Nemitz. Hezbollah vows to destroy Israel, once and for all, and Ahmadinejad of Iran offers to help. President Bush continues to forge ahead with a North American Union and this week gives Mexico $1.5 billion to buoy the Mexican economy. When US authorities arrest four on charges of spying for the Chinese, Beijing tells the Justice Department to drop its “Cold War” attitude. Criminal aliens continue the daily invasion and none of the three remaining presidential candidates said a word about securing the border. And Congress – a confederacy of whores of both Asses and Elephants – grills Roger Clemens about a ten year old boil on his fanny. Little wonder the nation is poised to elect Obama to the White House. Any change – even if it means political, economic and cultural suicide – is preferable to this slow death by dunces.

  2. The Congressional hearing was a disgrace. Clemens’ performance only added to my believe that he’s guilty as hell. But, it won’t matter because nothing will come of it. The Bush family won’t allow it.

  3. I agree with GZguy that nothing will come of it, but to ascribe the non-result to the Bush Family is pure, unadulterated Bush Derangement Syndrome. Get over it. Bush 43 won the 2000 election. Gore lost. Get ready for Obama, and the only “change” you will see is the change left in your pocket.

  4. Hey Bostonian … less change in our pocket will be due to the war expenses Bush has incurred…. Whomever gets in office will have to clean up his mess. He could go down as the worst President ever! That’s a lot to get over…

  5. Hey back, GZGuy, In case you haven’t checked lately, the surge has worked wonders, the local sheiks are on our side, and anyone with an even mediocre understanding of history – which of course, is not taught anymore in schools and viewed only in TV soundbites on the networks – recognizes that our sacrifices have achieved something never before seen in that part of the world. Sunis and Shiites are actually in a evolving political union. Never has that happened in the entire history of Islam. We have not been attacked since 9/11. Al Quaida is spent and on the run. We’ve killed or captured most of their leadership. Need I remind you of the 8-year Cllinton debacle which gave Al Quaida all they needed.

  6. Bostonian … all sounds good, but remind me again how Iraq was a threat to the US in the first place. I have no problem fighting Al Quaida, but Iraq is not Al Quaida. You also sound like Clemens, blaming others for his own mistakes………

  7. Ok GZ guy, let’s go back to elementary school. Islamic terror was rooted in Iraq. Sadam Hussein was the prime funding source for Hezbollah and any number of terror organizations. Among Hussein’s greatest exports, along with his oil for food scams with France, was terror in many forms – from financial to the sale of weapons. That alone was reason enough to remove him and attempt to create a mideast model based on something more in this century, not the 7th century. Next, every intelligence agency – Russia, France, England, Germany, Israel and the US – reported Hussen’s continuing nuclear and biological threats. That concurrence is something you heed. You don’t wait 9 months – or until another 9/11 – while truck caravan after truck caravan moved who knows what to Syria. On the humanitarian front, I suppose you wanted the rape rooms and torture chambers of Hussien and his sons to continue? I think you don’t. The war in Iraq, like any war, is complex and lingering. Only a generation from now – if the democrats will just let our military win – we will be able to judge.

  8. Hey Bostonian … at least your reasoning sounds better than that of Bush………

  9. Hey GZ guy, I am no champion of “W.” On that, we can together raise a toast.
